The tournament will feature 2 weeks after the Wimbledon Open (Grand Slam Tournament) and the same week as the WTA 250 tournament, Hamburg European Open.

In the singles championship, no 2 seeded player Qinwen Zheng wins her first WTA title by beating local Jasmine Paolini 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 in the final. It is the first Chinese to win the champion’s trophy in Palermo in 34 editions.
In doubles, The No. 1 seeds Kimberley Zimmermann and Yana Sizikova defeat Camilla Rosatello and Angelica Moratelli for the title in Palermo. Belgian star Kimberley win the Palermo Ladies Open for 3rd time in a row while Sizikova wins it for 1st time.

In the 2022 singles championship, Romanian star Irina-Camelia Begu won against Italian star Lucia Bronzetti. Begu won the final in straight sets (6-2,6-2).
In doubles, German star Kimberley Zimmermann and Hungarian star Anna Bondar won the title against Amina Anshba of Russia and Panna Udvardy of Hungary in straight sets (6-3,6-2). Kimberley wins back-to-back Palermo Open doubles titles with different partners.

In 2021, American Star Danielle Collins won the singles title against Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania. Collins wins the final in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). In doubles, Erin Routliffe of New Zealand and Kimberley Zimmermann of Belgium won the title against Russian pair Natela Dzalamidze and Kamilla Rakhimova in the final set.
