Lyon Open 2023 Results
In singles, Homestar Carlina Garcia was defeated by American young star Alycia Parks in the final. Alycia Parks wins her first WTA tour title as she takes down World No. 5 Caroline Garcia 7-6(7) 7-5 in Lyon.
In the doubles title, Bibiane Schoofs / Cristina Bucșa defeated Alexandra Panova / Olga Danilović 7-6(5) 6-3 for the Lyon Doubles title. Bibiane Schoofs won the first WTA double title in the year and in their career together.
Lyon Open 2022 Results
On the 6th of March, Chinese star Zhang Shuai uplifted her 3rd career title by winning the WTA singles title at Lyon Open. After one set down from Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska, seeded no. 8 Zhang comeback victory to clinch her title. Zhang won a battle 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 against wildcard Dayana.
Zhang collected her 1st title in 2012 and 2nd in 2013. Runner-up star sister, Ivanna, was also able to make it out of Ukraine and get to Lyon in doubles with Yastremska. Runner-up Ukrainian star Yastremska donates Lyon Open prize money to aid Ukraine war.
In the doubles championship, American pair Catherine Harrison and Sabrina Santamaria beat the Chinese In doubles, Unseeded pair Laura Siegemund from Germany and Vera Zvonareva from Russia triumphed in the Lyon Open 2022.
Champions took the title with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over British pair Alicia Barnett and Olivia Nicholls. The winning pair also won US Open in 2020 which was their 1st event as a team and this one was their 2nd title together. It is the 7th title for German star Siegmund and the 11th title for Russian star Zvonareva.
Some of the best players in the world, including Caroline Garcia & Lyonnaise, ambassadors of the tournament, were featured in Lyon for the 3rd edition of the game, a major event on the international circuit. Danish star Clara Tauson was the singles champion of 2021 while Viktoria Kuzmova and Arantxa Rus won the doubles title of 2021. In both Singles and Doubles, the 2021 champions couldn’t defend their titles this time.
