In 2022, French Star Caroline Garcia won the Western & Southern Open singles title. Caroline defeated Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic in the final (6-2, 6-4). Caroline also won the Poland Open, Bad Homburg Open, and Roland Garros Doubles in 2022.
In the doubles championship, Lyudmyla Kichenok of Ukraine and Jelena Ostapenko defeated Nicole Melichar-Martinez of the USA and Ellen Perez of Australia in the final in straight sets (7-6, 6-3). The winning pair previously won the Birmingham Open this year.
Cincinnati Open History
The Cincinnati Open began in 1899, later becoming the Tri-State Tennis Tournament until 1969. It underwent various name changes, including the ATP Championships. The event shifted locations due to management and surface changes. Initially on clay courts, it switched to hardcourts in 1979.
Since 1979, it has been held in Mason with three stadium courts. Women’s competition returned in 1988 and 2004. In 2008, the men’s tournament was acquired by the USTA. From 2002 to 2016, Western & Southern Financial Group sponsored the event. In 2022, the USTA sold the tournament to Beemok Capital owned by Ben Navarro.
