Washington Open also known as Mubadala Citi DC Open for sponsorship reasons is one of the most famous tennis tournaments in the USA for both the WTA and ATP tours. This tournament is from the chain of the US Open series.
Citi Open was founded in 1969 as an ATP tour but the WTA tour started in 2011. This year, it will be the 11th edition of the Citi Open for the WTA tour. Due to Covid-19, the 2020 and 2021 editions were not played.

The 11th edition of the WTA Citi Open is starting on the 31st of July and ends on the 6th of August 2023. This event is categorized as a WTA 500-level tour. WTA CITI Open 2023 Results
In singles, Local Coco Gauff and Greek Maria Sakkari faced off in the women’s singles final of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 500 series tournament hosted by the capital Washington.
Gauff had his second tournament victory this year by beating his opponent 2-0 in sets of 6-2 and 6-3 after the struggle that lasted for 1 hour and 24 minutes. The 19-year-old tennis player, who became the youngest champion in the history of the tournament, won her fourth cup in the WTA career.
While in the doubles, Vera Zvonareva and Laura Siegemund defeated Alexa Guarachi along with Monica Nicolescu by 6-4 and 6-4 in 1 hour and 23 minutes. The winning pair won Their fourth title together.

CITI DC Open History and Winners
The women’s event was first held in 2011 in College Park, Maryland as the Citi Open, and for the 2012 season, the ATP and WTA decided to merge their Maryland and Washington spots into a joint tournament, with the women’s event moving to the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center.
In June 2023, it was announced that Mubadala would be a co-sponsor of the event, and the event would become branded as the Mubadala Citi DC Open after the WTA moved its sanction from the Silicon Valley Classic to the Washington Open.
It was also announced that the women’s event would be promoted from a WTA 250 to a WTA 500 tournament, which would make the Washington Open the world’s first joint-500-level tennis tournament in the world on both the ATP and WTA tours.
