The 13th St. Petersburg Ladies’ Trophy 2022 started earlier this month on the 7th of February, has come to an end with singles champion No. 2 seed Anett Kontaveit of Estonia, and the doubles crown goes to Caty McNally and Anna Kalinskaya.

Anett Kontaveit has upgraded her ranking in WTA from world No. 09 to world No. 6 after defeating Maria Sakkari from Greece who is now the world No. 08 Estonian star with straight 20 indoor matches and consecutive 4 indoor titles. With a grueling 5-7, 7-6(4), 7-5 victory against seeded No. 1 star, she won the 13th St. Petersburg ladies trophy 2022 held on Sunday 13th February. After one set down, Kontaveit needed 2 hours and 57 minutes to get her career 6th WTA singles title.
On the other side, American McNally and Russian Kalinskaya pair grabbed the doubles title. The pair faced Alicja Rosolska of Poland and Erin Routliffe of New Zealand in the final earlier on Sunday. Russian professional Kalinskaya, on home soil, claimed her third WTA doubles title, while it was McNally’s fifth career WTA doubles title. Kalinskaya and McNally teamed up for the first time this week and took the title by winning their semifinal as well as the final in match-tiebreaks 6-3, 6-7(5), [10-4].
St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy 2022 Prize Money
The total prize money for this year was $703,580, which is a 24.41% increase compared to 2021. The singles champion in 2022 received $108,000, more than double the amount Daria Kasatkina received last year (+111.8%), and the runner-up got $66,800 while semifinalists put $39,000 in her bag.
World number 22, 2021 champion Daria Kasatkina has withdrawn from the tournament. She has tested positive for Covid-19 which she revealed in her Twitter post. Jaqueline Cristian ranked 58 from Romania replaced 24 years old Russian Daria Kasatkina. On the other side, 2021 doubles champion Nadiia Kichenok and Raluca Olaru were also not able to defend their title this year. The Ukrainian Kichenok does not participate in this tournament. So, Romanian tennis professional player, Olaro paired with country fellow Sorana Cirstea.
The top seeds of this tournament were world number 7 Maria Sakkari and world number 9 Anett Kontaveit was seeded no 2. World No. 14 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the highest Russian ranked and Roland Garros finalist was seeded no 4. The 2018 champion Petra Kvitova received a wildcard and was seeded No.6
