Hamburg European Open, previously the German Open Tennis Championships, has been running since 1891 (only for men), making it one of the oldest tournaments in the world. For the first four years of its existence, it was played as a tennis exhibition in the Casino-Saal on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg.

In singles, Netherlands star Arantxa Rus has booked her biggest tournament victory ever in Hamburg on Saturday. In the final of the WTA 250 tournament, she defeated wild card holder Noma Noha Akugue: 6-0 and 7-6 (3). With the profit, Rus reaches the global top fifty.
In the doubles championship, Top seeds Alexandra Panova and Anna Danilina come from a set and a break down to beat seeded no 2 Angelica Moratelli and Camilla Rosatello 3-6, 7-6, [10-3].

European Open 2022 Champions
The 2022 Hamburg Open belongs to Americans, both single and double titles won by American stars. In singles, American star Bernarda Pera played the final against top seed Anett Kontaveit of Estonia. Pera grabbed victory in straight sets (6-2,6-4). Bernarda won back-to-back championships, she won Hungarian Grand Prix last week.
In doubles, American pair Sophie Chang and Angela Kulikov won the doubles championship against Aldila Sutjiadi of Poland and Miyu Kato of Japan. The winners defeated them in the final set (6-3, 4-6,10-6).
Hamburg European Open History and Winners
Since 1924, the tournament has been played in the Halle am Rothenbaum on Rothenbaumstraße (Rothenbaum Stadium), which has become the home of the tournament. The women’s event was held initially separately from 1982 to 1983 (in Hittfeld), and after 5 years break from 1987 through to 2002.
It was part of the WTA Tour but not known as the Hamburg Open for all these years. In 2021, this event returned to the calendar of the WTA tour, becoming part of its WTA 250 series category of tournaments known as the Hamburg European Open. This event is categorized in the WTA 250 level.
This event is categorized into different levels from its starting like WTA Tier V (1990–1992), WTA Tier IV (1993–2000), WTA Tier V (2001–2004), WTA Tier IV(2005–2008), WTA 250, (2009–2013), (2019–). 1st two editions were not part of WTA.
