AGEL Open Tennis Tournament
The AGEL Open also called the Ostrava Open is an annual women’s indoor hard-court tournament. Being a part of the WTA Tour, the tournament is in the 500s category. The championship’s rise to fame can be attributed to the many top-ranking players who participated in the Open. This year’s iteration will be the third since the tournament’s conception in 2020.
AGEL Open History and Past Winners
The full name of the tournament is J&T Banka Ostrava Open due to its title sponsor, the J&T Bank in the Czech Republic. The event has had a very long history starting in the 1990s. From 1994 to 1998, the tournament was called the Czech Indoor and was an ATP men’s tournament played on carpet. Then in 1999, the tournament would go by a new name, the Nokia Cup.
The Cup was held in Prostejov and was a women’s tournament part of the WTA Tour. After a 2 decade-plus hiatus, the event resurfaced in 2020. Now going by the title of the AGEL Open, the event was organized to make up for the many 2020 tournaments that were canceled or postponed cause of the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament has consistently been held shortly after the US Open. The previous winners of the WTA tournament are:

AGEL Open 2022 Champions
In the singles championship of Ostrava Open 2022, Barbora Krejcikova defeated world no 1 Iga Swiatek in the finals. Czech Republican star Barbora wins title in final set after 1st set down (5-7, 7-6, 6-3). It was the longest WTA final of the 2022. Barbora also broke 3 years of winning the final streak of Iga Swiatek.
On the other side in the doubles championship, American Pair Alycia Parks and Caty Mcnally won the Ostrava Open doubles title against Erin Routliffe of New Zealand and Alicja Rosolska. The winning pair gets victory in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).

For the Doubles participants, the aforementioned prize money is split in half between the 2 players. The percentages of the 2021 AGEL Open do not have to carry over to the 2022 edition.

AGEL Open 2022 Draws
The tournament has 32 singles and 16 doubles matches alongside 24 qualifying rounds. The draws are released as the tournament commences. The qualifying rounds and a portion of the main draws are conducted at the Athletic hall adjacent to the Ostrava Arena.

The AGEL Open main draw is held from the 3rd to the 9th of October with the qualifying rounds played on the 1st and 2nd.
